JUSTICE THROUGH MONARCH OR DEMOCRACY IN MALAYSIA

Our hope in seeing Malaysia to rise as a democracy country will be pause again when a mass rally which is organize by BERSIH group is schedule to send a memorandum to the monarch (raja) on 10 November 2007 through Istana Negara. The agenda of the protest is focus to the reform of electoral system and the protest is also known by the name of People Movement “100,000” mobilization on the 10 November 2007 at Dataran Merdeka.

From my point of view, the monarch has never played any role in reforming the independence and definitely not a symbol of democracy nor a transparent governance. Why does BERSIH have to send the memorandum to the monarch that have no power or access to the government. And why don’t they send it to the prime minister Paklah or SPR that have direct access to the government and the electoral system. The PM is the right person to stressed out our voice and we should put pressure to it until there is some changes be done by the government.

The mass gathering is publicly said to bring in the people from all walk of life and organization together in support of a reform agenda, but it is not purely the people voice when we are trying to raise our voice to the king. On that day also the gathering will be look like the “people” showing support to the monarchy when crowds will be wearing yellow and sending memorandum to the kings. Why can’t the people come there wearing anything and taking their party flag or banner as long as the agenda of the gathering is still the same as one voice ?

The gathering have been influence by the Gerakan or Gelombang kuning from Raja Petra

I think that the yellow colour and the memo to the king is definitely goes to show the process towards something else rather than electoral reform. I also presume that someone have been tempered to the core of BERSIH agenda and using it as a tool to their own interest. I believe the wearing the yellow color during the gathering have been influence by the Gerakan or Gelombang kuning from Raja Petra (Malaysia-today). We don’t need the power of king to reform the government. If BERSIH said it is the people movement, then it should be a public protest and not a Bersih protest. The main purpose of the protest is to show the displeasure by the people in the process of electoral system and the urged for the electoral reform.

I strongly urged people who wants to attend the gathering should think twice when attending and shouting for a reform, because they are voicing their voice to the king and I truly believe that some of us have their principle by not giving support to the monarch system because we don’t want to turn back to the era of feudal Institution and the Hang Tuah time is now just a history.

I also urged people and organization who has the same view as mine should not take part in the people movement 100 000 mobilization on 10 November 2007 when the core of the movement is been played and influenced by the people in the monarch system. The BERSIH committee should do some reformation in their own organization before trying to reform the government and voice out the displeasure of people view in this country.
